MILLBURN - Police say they arrested the man who allegedly left a woman battered and bruised after a home invasion in Millburn last week.
Authorities say 42-year-old Shawn Custis was captured in New York on Friday and is in custody in connection with the attack. Public groups and private individuals had helped boost the reward to $22,500 for information leading to Custis' arrest. There is no word yet on who, if anyone, will receive that reward.
Police say Custis punched and kicked the young mother on June 21 and threw her down a flight of stairs while her 3-year-old daughter cowered on the couch last week. Custis faces charges of first-degree attempted murder in connection with the assault. He is also charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Custis has four prior arrests for burglary in four different counties. He was released from prison just over six months ago.
Detectives say the victim suffered a concussion, bruises, chipped teeth and cuts around her mouth. Her daughter and 1-year-old son were left uninjured during the attack.
Custis allegedly stole the woman's wedding ring and a gold necklace with her children's names on it.
The victim's family issued a statement Friday saying in part, "We are forever grateful to the incredible team of law enforcement officers for their hard work over the past week. Thanks to these heroes, our family can now begin the next chapter of our healing."
Custis is being held at the Essex County jail on $750,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned next week.
