SANDY HOOK - Women lifeguards gathered in Sandy Hook today for the oldest and largest competition for female lifeguards.

The Sandy Hook All Women Lifeguard Tournament is in its 28th year and is held every July.

Competitive events including surf rescue, ocean kayak challenge and the aptly named "iron woman" challenge.

While most of the competitors are from New Jersey and New York, it has included teams from as far away as California and Canada in years past.

The friendly competition is designed to celebrate the high level of fitness and skill women bring to lifeguarding.
