LAVALLETTE - Construction on Route 35 has left an Ocean County town with fewer parking spots, and it is angering business owners.

The construction has taken away about 50 parking spaces in Lavallette. Parking spaces near crosswalks were eliminated after the highway was paved because buffers are now required by law.

The Shaded Vision clothing store lost all the parking spaces that used to be directly in front of the shop. Many business owners tell News 12 New Jersey that they are unhappy.

“To lose five or six here and there is no big deal, but to lose 50, that's a big blow to us,” says one business owner. “Our window of business is small. It's literally Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend."

The Lavallette mayor says that the borough has reached a tentative agreement with the Department of Transportation to add 22 parking spaces.
