FORT LEE - A three-month construction project created backups today for New Jersey drivers crossing the George Washington Bridge.
Work on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge on the New York side began Saturday. The Alexander Hamilton is the main thoroughfare for eastbound drivers crossing the GWB and getting to I-95 in The Bronx.
New Jersey drivers are advised to use the three Staten Island crossings. Motorists from the north are advised to use the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The work on the Alexander Hamilton involves steel reinforcement and deck replacement.
