Columbia High School senior-prom tradition to get new life

SOUTH ORANGE - The details are still being worked out, but the Columbia High School Prom Showcase in South Orange will get a new life at a new venue.

The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) will be the future site of the showcase. It can seat 415 people and can be more controlled. Attendants will need a ticket to get through the doors. A few details still need to be worked out, but the event is set to be held June 21.

The showcase was in jeopardy due to fights that broke out at the end of last year's event at Grove Park. Local officials were worried about safety this time around as the annual pre-prom red carpet event has drawn big crowds for the past several years.
