Columbia H.S. students attend prom showcase

SOUTH ORANGE - Police in South Orange kept a close watch on the prom showcase for Columbia High School tonight, mixing high style with high security.

Students made splashy entrances, with one girl even arriving in a Ferrari at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC).

The event was nearly canceled following violence that erupted at last year's event when it was held at Grove Park.

The auditorium seated just 415 people, so prom-goers had only two tickets each to give to family and friends.

Organizers and local officials plan to meet soon to discuss how the Showcase went and whether to move it to SOPAC permanently.
