COLTS NECK - A Colts Neck school is implementing new security measures after authorities say they arrested a man for allegedly trying to kidnap a student last week.

Police say Kevin Slade Jr., 36, of Freehold, walked through the front door of the Conover Elementary School and down a corridor last Wednesday. They say some students were still in the building for after-school activities.

According to detectives, Slade told the principal he was there to pick up a child whose mother he met on Facebook, but he could only give the child's first name.

Officials say his story was made up and he was charged with trespassing. Two days later, police charged him with attempted kidnapping.

School officials will hold a meeting at the school today at 6 p.m. to discuss some of the new security measures, which include a swipe card system. All parents are invited to attend.
