Colts Neck mayor's wife charged with shoplifting

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - (AP) - The wife of the mayor of anupscale New Jersey community is accused of shoplifting at Lord &Taylor.

Police arrested Colts Neck Mayor James Schatzle's wife, Susan,after security said they spotted the 42-year-old attempting toleave the Freehold Raceway Mall store Friday.

Freehold Township Police Capt. James Lasky told the Asbury ParkPress the merchandise, which included several purses and wallets,was valued at $1,305.

Susan Schatzle was issued a summons and the case was transferredto the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The Colts Neck mayor released a statement saying he loves andsupports his wife.
