CLIFTON - Making the grade will be easier for students this year in Clifton.

The superintendent of schools has lowered the passing grade from 70 to 65 in order to boost Clifton's graduation rate and make it more competitive with other school districts.

Clifton follows Woodland Park, Passaic, Garfield and Paterson with lowered grade standard policies.

There is no statewide standard of what a passing grade should be.
