CLIFTON - School officials in Clifton voted Wednesday night to cut 49 jobs within the district amid a $9 million budget shortfall.

The cuts could affect 25 teachers, some custodial, administrative and support staff. The jobs are expected to be eliminated by July 1.

According to the school district’s website, the cuts come on recommendations from the superintendent of schools based on financial reasons.

Many parents and employees attended Wednesday’s meeting to express their strong opposition to the cuts.
