CLIFTON - A Clifton man says city officials have made it so difficult for him to create his Halloween yard display that he's packing up his pumpkins.

For 12 years in a row, Wayne Gangi has decked out his Clifton yard for Halloween. The elaborate spectacle includes ghosts, goblins, and animated characters.

He says that as the display has grown, so too have the restrictions. Last year, the city expanded the "no parking" zone around his house, due to traffic concerns. This year, he's been told the hanging ghosts have to go. "I feel like I'm being censored. Every year it's another thing," Gangi says.

There is a Clifton ordinance that says decorations cannot be hung from city trees. City officials say they're concerned about the safety of the trees as well as the safety of the residents.

Some residents say they'll be disappointed to see the display go. "I think it's great he goes all out," Pernille Wilhjelm says. "It's sad he's taking it down."

But others are ready for a break from the crowds. "There's a lot of traffic. There are accidents," neighbor Beth Herman says. "The kids come on the property and leave garbage and stuff."

Gangi says he'll likely cancel his famous Christmas display as well.

Last year, Gangi collected $2,500 from spectators, which he donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year, he says he would have donated the collections to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
