METUCHEN - Members of St. Francis of Assisi were overjoyed Wednesday not only by the election of a new pope, but also over the name chosen by the pontiff.

Staff and clergy gathered around a computer screen to watch Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina become the next pope and choose the name Francis. Father Frank Hilton, a Jesuit, was happy to learn that the church had chosen its first Jesuit pope and that he took the name Francis, from the Italian saint who is synonymous with peace, poverty and a simple life.

Reverend Monsignor Robert Zamorski said the name selected by the pope speaks of his humility.
