Church conducts 'reverse offering' to help economy

MORRISTOWN - One church in Morristown is conducting a reverse offering this Sunday. Instead of asking congregants to give, they are encouraging them to take from the collection plate.

Tim Lucas is the lead pastor at the Liquid Church, a contemporary Christian church that holds services in three different New Jersey locations, including the Morristown Hyatt.

Lucas explains that on a typical Sunday, the church receives about $30,000 in cash, but this weekend it will put some money back into the hands of the people.

"Maybe it's a single mom who needs gas money or money to pay a baby sitter ... they can help a neighbor buy ingredients to make a meal," said Lucas.

The church is donating an additional $60,000 to community projects throughout New Jersey.
