BRADLEY BEACH - Old Christmas trees can find new life at the Jersey Shore.
Dried up firs, spruces and pines are being picked up to be buried in a new artificial dune starting Tuesday.
A similar project took place about 15 years ago. While residents once complained that the artificial dunes obstructed their view, those same dunes are now being credited with saving property during the onslaught of Superstorm Sandy.
Now, officials are collecting old Christmas trees to build even more dunes to protect Bradley Beach.
Anyone looking to donate their old tree may do so by dropping them off on the beach at the corner of Newark and Ocean avenues in Bradley Beach. There's also a Christmas tree drop off on Jan. 13 at Cattus Island State Park in Toms River.
Trees can also be dropped off on Jan. 19 at Island Beach State Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The town is also looking for volunteers to help bury the trees on Jan. 19.
