MOUNT OLIVE - Next week's New York City Marathon field includes a New Jersey resident who can serve as an inspiration for many.

Christina Verduchi has polycystic ovary syndrome, which produces a hormonal imbalance. Last year, Verduchi weighed 220 pounds, was taking diabetes medication and suffered from depression.

After finding herself unable to keep up with her young niece, Verduchi began running and shedding pounds. She met her first goal of completing a 5K, followed by joining a runner's group and finishing a half-marathon.

The 35-year-old financial and accounting recruiter has lost 70 pounds in 14 months. She's off her diabetes medications and runs up to 25 miles weekly.

Verduchi is being featured in Runner's World magazine as one of ten inspirational runners in this year's New York City Marathon.

The marathon is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3.
