AVENEL - Gov. Chris Christie says that he will not endorse any candidate to succeed him as New Jersey’s governor, including Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, until all the candidates have filed their intent to run.

The filing deadline to run for governor is in April. Christie says that it is not clear how much he will campaign with the nominee.

“It’s the curse of all lieutenant governors and vice presidents that it’s a great job  to have, but you’re No. 2 and the No. 1 gets most of the attention,” Christie says. “I have to be sensitive to that too, whether I want to be that deeply involved, even if I’m prepared to vote for the lieutenant governor and whether that’s really in her political interest.”

The governor says that he has met with three of the candidates and that it is a difficult decision to decide who to endorse. Christie has worked with several of them.

There are at least 13 people who have announced that they are running for New Jersey governor, including four Republicans.
