TRENTON - Gov. Chris Christie says three state government buildings will be demolished and replaced with new structures as part of an initiative to build the economy of New Jersey's capital city.

Christie announced Wednesday that the state's aging agriculture, health and taxation buildings will be demolished. They will be replaced with new buildings in Trenton that will have 27 percent less square footage.

Christie predicted a savings for taxpayers, but didn't provide further details. He also didn't answer questions or specify how much the project would cost.

The governor made the announcement at the Roebling Lofts, a commercial/residential project that's under construction.

Christie says the Economic Development Authority has approved $69.8 million in incentives for businesses in Trenton. Among those sites are Roebling Lofts, which formerly housed wire rope manufacturer.
