RAMSEY - Chilling new audio recordings obtained by News 12 New Jersey reveal the moments after a man attempted to throw two children in front of a train in Ramsey on Monday.

In the audio, the panicked caller is heard telling 911 dispatchers "Somebody tried to throw a kid in front of a train" and asking for immediate help.

Police say David Howard grabbed the two boys, ages 7 and 9, at the Main Street station as they waited with their mother and grandmother. Police say the boys were saved by their mother and grandmother who tackled and held Howard until police arrived.

Police say Howard had either drugs and/or alcohol in his system at the time. They have not yet determined why he went after the boys.

Howard is in custody and is facing a long list of charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping.
