MANVILLE - A Manville mother is relieved after her 6-year-old daughter was dropped off by a school bus in front of her empty home Monday.
Stefanie Myers says she is glad her daughter Teresa is safe after a school bus operated by Nevi Transit brought her from Nu View Academy and dropped her off at home, without confirming that a parent was there to greet her.
Myers says the scary part was what could have happened. "She could have wandered, someone could have stole her, she could have been hit by a car."
When Myers arrived home from work, Teresa was alone in the backyard.
Teresa started at Nu View Academy, a special year-round therapeutic school in Piscataway for behavior issues, last week. The school says its policy is for bus drivers to bring the child back to school if a parent isn't home.
A representative from Manville Schools, which contracts out the bus service for children who attend schools out of the district, says they are investigating and will not be using Nevi Transit anymore.
The owner of Nevi Transit says the driver thought a parent was home. The company says it plans to fire the driver.
