CARTERET - Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan has announced that Shawn Humphrey, 36, of Carteret, has been charged with the murder of Dana Ciccolella, 32.

A release from the prosecutors' office says Ciccolella was Humphrey's live-in companion. She was found dead in her home Monday. Humphrey was arrested in Penn Station in New York City at about 8:15 p.m. yesterday.

The prosecutor's office says Humphrey also was charged with hindering his own apprehension by preventing the victim's minor children from entering her bedroom, where she was strangled sometime before Monday.

Humphrey is awaiting extradition to New Jersey. Bail has been set in New Brunswick at $2 million by Superior Court Judge Michael A. Toto.
