UNION TOWNSHIP - (AP) - New Jersey authorities say state police shot and killed a man after he drove a stolen Jeep toward them.

The shooting occurred around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex in Union Township. The troopers were conducting surveillance on the jeep, which had been carjacked from its owner on April 13 in Bloomfield.

Authorities say 35-year-old Daniel Wolfe, whose last known address was in Sayreville, arrived on scene in a pickup truck and soon got into the Jeep. Authorities say Wolfe had been identified as a suspect in the carjacking, but did not provide further information.

As troopers converged on the vehicle to arrest Wolfe, he allegedly drove the Jeep in reverse, ramming a parked vehicle. He then accelerated forward and allegedly drove at a state trooper, who fired multiple rounds from his service weapon, wounding Wolfe in the shoulder and chest.
