TRENTON - Rest stops along the Turnpike and Parkway are a great place for drivers to re-energize, but they could soon be a good place to charge their cars, too.

A bill approved today in a statehouse committee would require the larger rest stops along toll roads run by the Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Turnpike Authority to install charging stations for electric vehicles.
Sen. Linda Greenstein says the charging stations may be just what's needed in the Garden State. "With New Jersey being such a heavily traveled state, just so many cars," she says. "That's what we're known for and Turnpike is the center of it, I think this can be a real chance to test how electric cars can work."

The bill now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
