BOGOTA - The man who punched a North Jersey mayor in the face is telling his side of the story.

Sal Trotta admits to hitting Bogota Mayor Tito Jackson on Tuesday, just after the mayor voted in the primary.

Trotta is the father of council candidate Tina Trotta, who says the altercation is part of her ongoing lawsuit against the town.

Tina Trotta says she's been harassed and defamed since the incident.

"I said, 'Stay back.'  But he kept coming," says Sal Trotta. "So I stopped him from coming...I punched him in the face."

Jackson says the punch was unprovoked.
