KEARNEY - Hudson County authorities have confirmed that the body pulled from the Passaic River has been identified as the suspect in the Irvington hot oil attack.

Byron Stokely, of Newark, was the prime suspect in a vicious attack on his ex-wife, Terry Thompson, who was allegedly doused in boiling hot oil as she slept back in March.

Thompson was left with second- and third-degree burns on more than a third of her body. She spent weeks in the St. Barnabas burn unit, but has since been released.

The prosecutor's office says the medical examiner must still perform an autopsy to determine when and how Stokely died.
