WEST NEW YORK - A supporter of a challenger for the mayor's office in West New York says someone went on a tire-slashing spree to keep voters from going to the polls.
There has been animosity in the campaign between Mayor Sal Vega and challenger Felix Roque. Antonio Gines, a Roque supporter, showed News 12 New Jersey the flattened tires on his fleet of seven buses that he owns, which are covered in posters supporting Roque.
Surveillance video shows a knife-wielding gang of seven slashed the tires in his parking lot around 10:30 p.m. Monday within minutes. Gines was going to use the buses to take clients from his adult day care center in West New York to the polls Tuesday. Gines believes the Vega campaign has something to do with it.
