Bus terminal gate changes for New Jersey commuters

New gates set for commuters at Port Authority bus terminal

New gates set for commuters at Port Authority bus terminal (9/8/15)

NEW YORK - The Port Authority's new gate assignments went into effect Tuesday, rerouting about one-third of the buses returning from New York to New Jersey.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey bus terminal in Manhattan is the nation's busiest.

The Port Authority reassigned gates at the 65-year-old terminal in a bid to reduce delays and overcrowding for the 110,000 passengers who use it daily.

Most New Jersey Transit gates have been consolidated on the third floor. Most Coach USA gates are now grouped together on the fourth floor.

Dozens of gate agents were positioned throughout out the building to give out pamphlets to some confused commuters. The Port Authority also put up signs to help passengers.

Many riders said they prepared for the new routine in advance.

Commuters can look up their bus routes at the Port Authority's website.
