POMPTON LAKES - A senior class trip was nearly ruined Friday when a bus company canceled at the last minute, leaving students without transportation.
More than 130 students had planned and saved up for a trip to Virginia Beach.
Class advisor Eileen Allan says the company, Celebration Travel of Chatham, canceled at midnight Thursday night, four hours before the students were scheduled to depart.
School representatives got on their phones in the middle of the night, calling dozens of bus companies, until they found replacements. Suburban of New Brunswick stepped in.
The buses left Friday afternoon, nine hours late.
Allan says she had confirmed the reservation this week, but got nervous when the company owner asked her to pay the more than $6,000 balance ahead of time. She did not, and is still waiting on her deposit.
News 12 New Jersey tried to contact Celebration Travel for a comment, but did not get a response.
