Burning mattress may have caused 4-alarm fire at Red Carpet Inn in Elmwood Park

ELMWOOD PARK - A burning mattress may be to blame for a four-alarm fire in Elmwood Park.

The fire started at around 1:30 p.m. today at the Red Carpet Inn along Route 46. Everyone inside the hotel made it out safely, but five people had to be rescued from five different rooms.  

Three people were treated for minor injuries. Several fire departments from neighboring towns were called in to help fight the blaze.

Route 46 was closed for several hours in the area as crews worked on the fire.  It was reopened at around 4:30 p.m. 

Investigators are now trying to determine the exact cause of the fire.
