FLORENCE TOWNSHIP - A Burlington County woman is undergoing a mental evaluation after she allegedly drove her van into the Delaware River with her three teenagers inside.

Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi says Joann Smith drove onto a boat ramp and into the Delaware River Tuesday in Florence Township. Passerby Darnell Taylor saw the car in the water and attempted to help.

"I knew right off the bat how deep the car was submerged I wouldn't be able to get the doors open," Taylor says. "A young lady was kicking at the window. I just kept telling her to kick and kick."  Taylor was able to get everyone out and help them swim to shore.
