Burlington County firefighter injured at truck fire

FLORENCE TOWNSHIP - At least one firefighter was injured while battling a tractor-trailer fire yesterday along a portion of Interstate 295.

State police officials say a firefighter from Florence Township in Burlington County was airlifted to Capital Health hospital after being struck by the back door of the vehicle that burst open during the blaze. They say other firefighters may have suffered minor injuries.

The tractor-trailer, which was carrying produce, was pulled over on the shoulder near the Mansfield-Florence exit with mechanical problems when it caught fire around 2:10 p.m.

Traffic was backed up for two to three miles near the scene of the fire.
