Budget: State Democrats doubting the 'Jersey Comeback'

TRENTON - Some Democrats are saying that Gov. Chris Christie's 'Jersey Comeback' rhetoric regarding the state's budget is just smoke and mirrors.

Led by Chairman Vince Prieto, Democrats Wednesday tried to pry out a sneak peek at just how far New Jersey's economy has recovered.

"Someone must have a sense of how corporate returns are doing at the moment," said Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-West Deptford). "I don't think that's an unanswerable question."

All budget inquiries went unanswered.

Many Republicans say that no matter what the numbers are in the upcoming budget, the state is still in better shape now than in recent years.

Democrats hope to get some answers when Treasurer Andrew Eristoff testifies in front of the Legislature in two weeks.
