Boy, 16, struck and killed by NJ Transit train

SPRING LAKE - A 16-year-old boy was struck and killed just north of NJ Transit's Spring Lake station in Monmouth County last night.

NJ Transit says the boy was hit by an eastbound New Jersey Coast Line train at about 10 p.m. He says 12 people were onboard the train but that they didn't suffer any injuries.

Service was temporarily suspended between Long Branch and Bay Head. It has since resumed.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim.

Officials say there were 23 train-related fatalities last year.
