MAPLEWOOD - A 15-year-old northern New Jersey high school student has been arrested after police say he brought a toy gun to school last week and threatened a classmate with it.
NJ.com reports Maplewood police said Monday the Columbia High School ninth-grader was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and related offenses.
Capt. Dawn Williams says the teen was arrested following a lockdown at the school on Dec. 3. She says the boy had a toy gun in school without a safety feature identifying it as a toy.
Williams says the boy showed the gun to a 14-year-old classmate causing the younger teen to become "fearful that the weapon would be used against him."
Several students saw the boy with the gun and reported it to building administration.
