Borgata casino plans outdoor concert hall

The Borgata casino has announced a new outdoor

The Borgata casino has announced a new outdoor concert hall will be built.

ATLANTIC CITY - (AP) - Atlantic City's Borgata casino will open an outdoor concert hall this summer and a new nightclub this fall.

The casino is getting $14 million from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority toward the $15 million total cost of both projects. The money is investment alternative tax payments that Borgata and the other seven casinos are obligated to make toward redevelopment projects.

Borgata Festival Park will hold 5,000 fans, and include an outdoor bar. Its debut concert will be June 13, but acts have not yet been announced.

The project is another example of individual casinos striking out on their own to host and promote events now that an agency that promotes the resort is about to be eliminated, and its $30 million annual budget redirected to help the struggling city.
