UNION COUNTY - Officials say a body found in Newark over the weekend is the Cranford woman believed to have been killed by her boyfriend.

Police had been searching for 43-year-old April Wyckoff since late last week.

The woman's body was found off Raymond Boulevard Sunday. Wyckoff's car was discovered last week in Newark, near the intersection of West Kinney and Livingston streets. Raymond Boulevard is approximately a mile away.

Authorities have charged 43-year-old Matthew Ballister III, who is being held on $2 million bail. They believe he killed the mother of two in his Union Township home some time Tuesday evening and then dumped Wyckoff's car in Newark.

Ballister made his first, although brief, court appearance Monday and did not enter a plea.

Witnesses say he appeared very calm and polite when he spoke to the judge. Right now, Ballister is charged with murder, but it's likely he will face an additional charge of desecrating his girlfriend's remains.

An autopsy puts the time of Wyckoff’s death at around 8:30 p.m. but has not yet identified how she was killed.

Authorities say they can't call off their search yet because some of Wyckoff's remains are still missing.
