Blind New Jersey man training for marathon

KINNELON - A blind Kinnelon man is training for his second New York City Marathon. Joe Bellatoni was injured in a car accident in 2007. His face was crushed, his ribs were broken, his spine was fractured and his arm was cut in half. He has healed since the accident, but, unfortunately, is still blind. Bellatoni began training for a marathon after the accident. His wife says she thought he was crazy and didn't think he could do it, especially since he didn't even run a mile nine weeks before the marathon.

He uses a tethered running partner whenever he trains, who can warn him of things such as potholes.
