Bills for gambling in New Jersey set for votes

EDISON - The current legislative season is about to end, but some big bills are still up for a vote when it comes to gambling.

Voters have already said they want sports betting and Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) has said he could support Internet-based gambling. Paired with today's bill allowing betting machines in bars and restaurants, the push is on to give New Jersey residents more opportunity to try their luck.

Many experts say expanded gambling comes at a price, especially for those who can least afford it, like the state's 350,000 compulsive gamblers.

A plan to allow New Jersey wineries to ship direct to customers and maintain tasting rooms also passed today.

Final voting sessions of this legislative session begin Monday. Christie is set to give the State of the State address Tuesday.
