EDISON - A judge in Bergen County has been named to consider cases that were handled by a northern New Jersey forensic lab accused of shoddy work.

Authorities said last month suspended lab technician Kamalkant Shah, who worked at a State Police crime lab in Little Falls, may have been involved in more than 7,000 drug cases statewide.

A notice released Tuesday by New Jersey's acting administrator of courts says Shah faces allegations he failed to appropriately conduct laboratory analyses, peer review or administrative of drug evidence.

Many defense attorneys have filed motions to have their clients' convictions thrown out and guilty pleas withdrawn.

Tuesday's notice names Hackensack-based state Superior Court Judge Edward Jerejian to handle the cases.
