WALLINGTON - A funeral was held in Clifton Sunday for a 22-year-old woman whose remains were recovered from the Passaic River Saturday night.
Authorities say Devorah Stubin's silver Mitsubishi Galant was found in the Passaic River in Wallington with her body inside. She had been missing since Thursday.
Police say Stubin, who suffered from epilepsy, drove through a fence and down a 10-foot embankment into the water.
Family members say she was on her way from her home in Passaic to pick up her brother at a parkway rest stop on Thursday, but never reached her destination.
A police officer in Maywood pulled her over that night for driving without headlights. She told him she was lost, and he helped her back to the parkway. That was the last time she was seen.
At 3:15 p.m. Saturday, the owner of a funeral home found damage to his fence and car debris. After police responded, they found the vehicle submerged in about 10 feet of water.
It is not yet clear if her health condition led to the crash that submerged her vehicle.
