NORTH ARLINGTON - Bergen County police are investigating a rash of thefts from cars and homes.

A thief was caught stealing items from an SUV in North Arlington. The robbery was captured on surveillance camera.

Police in North Arlington and Rutherford say thieves are targeting unlocked cars, homes and garages. Thieves are stealing computers, bikes and other items. Most of the robberies happen at night, authorities say.

Neighbors say they’re keeping their guards up. "I'm definitely nervous. It's a quiet area, so typically, it's safe," says Meghan Blackford. "And I'll make sure my car is locked and my house is locked."

Police are urging residents to be on alert and to lock their cars and homes. They ask residents to call police if they see anything suspicious.
