HACKENSACK - The Bergen County Sheriff's Office says that a gun buyback program held over the weekend netter more than 1,300 firearms.

Sheriff Michael Saudino tells WCBS-AM that when the same event was held back in 2010, only 703 guns were collected.

The buyback allowed gun owners to turn weapons in for cash with no questions asked. They received $300 for an assault weapon, $100 for handguns and $80 for shotguns and rifles.

Organizers budgeted about $110,000 for the buyback.
