BERNARDS TOWNSHIP - Thousands of bees escaped from a tractor-trailer that became disabled on a northern New Jersey highway.

Authorities say that the bees escaped Monday morning after the truck shifted its load as it was exiting off Route 287 in Bernards Township.

The truck was carrying thousands of bees that escaped into the area. Beekeepers were called to put the remaining load back together and send the truck on its way. The bees were headed from Georgia to Maine.

The site was cleared more than four hours later.
