POMPTON PLAINS - After a family of bears was caught on camera at the Glen Condominium Complex in Pompton Plains, officials are reminding New Jersey residents how to stay safe.

The Department of Environmental Protection advises that black bears are preparing for winter and are out actively looking for food.

Officials say residents should secure garbage cans and Dumpsters, wash out garbage cans to eliminate food odors and wait until Dec. 1 to fill bird feeders.
