UNION - A bear was captured in Union County this afternoon.

Witnesses say the bear first made its way up a tree near Union Township's town hall at around 8 a.m.

Authorities then shot the bear with a tranquilizer dart, but it was able to wander into some backyards along Burke Parkway.

New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife joined local police and firefighters to capture the bear. The animal was unharmed and is being relocated to nearby state land.
