SPRING LAKE - Beachgoers heading to the Jersey Shore Sunday are being warned to watch for rip currents churned up by Hurricane Gaston in the Atlantic Ocean.

Swimmers are advised to keep out of the water when lifeguards are off duty.

The weather is also creating desirable conditions for many surfers with 3 and 4 foot swells.

News 12 spoke with Luke Barnard, who was out surfing in Spring Lake early Sunday morning. He says conditions like this are ideal and he will be trying to get in as many waves as he can.

Hurricane Gaston is expected to remain far east of Bermuda and does not pose a threat to the U.S. East Coast, forecasters say.
