ASBURY PARK - Hurricane Arthur's rains claimed New Jersey beaches on the Fourth of July holiday, but residents made the best of the weather.

In Asbury Park, joggers found plenty of boardwalk space and residents used the sand to play soccer.

Arthur strengthened to a Category 2 storm with winds of 100 mph Thursday evening before passing over the southern end of the Outer Banks, and has since been downgraded. It's expected to pass well offshore of New Jersey.

The rain did claim one tradition of the Fourth of July holiday: the fireworks on the beach at Asbury Park were postponed to Saturday night at 9 p.m.
