Bayonne tenants: Landlord driving us out to hike rent

BAYONNE - Tenants in a group of Bayonne apartment buildings claim their landlord is purposely driving them out in order to raise the rent.

Dozens of tenants claim constant construction, dust and debris are making their living conditions deplorable. Residents think the landlord is doing it on purpose in order to push them out and bring in higher paying tenants.

Bayonne recently repealed a rent-control law and landlords are now allowed to charge market rates once apartments turn over.

The management company, Riverside Management, did not return calls from News 12 New Jersey for comment.

The upcoming November ballot will contain a question on reinstating rent control laws in Bayonne.
