BAYONNE - EMTs arrived on the scene of a crash in Bayonne overnight to find that one of the victims was one of their own.

Michael Burke, 23, was driving down Avenue A when his truck crashed into an underpass.

It is unclear what caused the crash. Toxicology reports are pending.

Burke was a Bayonne High School graduate who started working at McCabe EMT on his 21st birthday.

Owner Mickey McCabe says it was a tough night for his crew. "The horrific scene, the tragedy that unfolded, and their having to do everything possible to help save his life when he used to stand alongside them, saving other lives, was a tremendous burden for all of them," he says.

Burke is credited with saving dozens of lives in his short career.

He is survived by his mother, father and a younger sister.
