Barnegat SD insists it has funding for 9/11 memorial

BARNEGAT - The Barnegat School District insists funds are available for its Sept. 11 memorial. This is despite the fact that first responder Charlie Giles says he was told by officials that the $15,000 needed to build the memorial was not available.

Board of Education President Lisa Becker tells News 12 New Jersey, "I have no idea where Mr. Giles got this information. There is an account set up for this memorial."

Both the superintendent and the board president say they didn't know how much money was in that account, but that the original planned memorial, which includes a steel beam from the Port Authority, will proceed.
