AVON-BY-THE-SEA - The last official weekend of the summer is being soaked up in Avon-by-the-Sea, and tourists and business owners hope it stays that way.

Michelle Nipper agrees it's the place to be. "I think it's beautiful," she says."It's clean. Everything looks good. The boardwalk is perfect. It looks great here."

Other visitors were hoping to get more out of the summer. "It's been a good summer, but the weather wasn't as great as it should be and there's not as many people as there were last year," according to Stuart Speck of Manalapan.

Superstorm Sandy destroyed the Avon Pavillion, but a temporary tent placed on the redesigned boardwalk has been up and running since June.

Business owners who have been struggling with smaller crowds this summer are hoping the weather holds up for the holiday weekend.
